I solved my problem with the FM transmitter on my Nuvi 710, as I use it extensively as a MP3 player. No matter what blank frequency I tried, the interference (Especially downtown JHB and Soweto) was so bad that I had to turn it off.
The solution is:
Touch the battery indicator for about 4 seconds
The test page screen comes up
Touch 'NEXT' 4 times to the Audio Output Test Page
         Touch FM POWER
Jack up the FM PROPERTY VALUE to 115dB (Max)
              Exit
This maximum setting only works in South Africa as setting the FM property strength value is controlled by the country setting (especially Europe) where transmitting laws are stricter.
By the way I find that using 91.3 FM works well for the whole of Gauteng and surrounding areas. I have used it up to the Waterberg with no interference

Hi Peter

That is definitely worth knowing if are a 710 owner. Thanks for sharing that with the forum.

My 610T hasn't got a built in transmitter so I use a 3rd Party transmitter. There is a "Lo" and a "Hi" setting on it and "Lo" is almost useless, so what you say makes sense.

I have used that feature quite extensively on my 760.

A nice feature to use as well is to connect the Nüvi to your phone via blueteeth, and have the radio preset to the FM Transmitter frequency.
When a call is received you simply press the radio preset button, press answer on the Nüvi, and you have a bluetooth carkit.

Thanks vanderpd.

This will hopefully fix the problem I had with the FM transmitter on my Nuvi 710 in Gauteng. I shall use your fix and then in future use the setting 91.3 in Gauteng and the 93.3 setting in the Western Cape serves me well.

From a very happy Garmin Nuvi 710 user!!!
