I plan to visit friends in Europe and would like to work in a tour also. I plan to do most of the travelling by backpack and train.
My question is which GPS I should get.
I initially planned to get a Colorado 450 but then again I would like to use it mostly in a vehicle when I come back. I prefer a wide screen GPS. The Colorado does not fit in here anymore though.
I then take a look at the Nuvi 1450. I like it a lot. It is light and though a wide screen GPS it still fits in one's pocket. It does no run as long as the Colorado on batteries and is not water resistant. Does the Lane Assist feature works in South Africa and if so does it only work in major cities?

By buying the 1450 instead of the 1410 you will get lane assist (No lane assist in RSA yet), but loose the "bluetooth" feature. Thinking now about the usable features when you get back.

Also, I don't know how long your "trip sections" will be, but the bad one here maybe the battery runtime between charges. You'll definitely need a mains charger.
Charge Time: Up to 4 hours Battery Life: Up to 3 hours ???
(Page 55 from the manual.)

Hi St Bosse',
Seems like the Nuvi 1450 is the way to go. I have to take a charger for the phone (HTC = usb) so no sweat. 2 flies with one swat.
Junction view seems like a nice feature from what I read..... Shame though that lane assist is not available in SA
BTW, a bit off topic, is there a way to load more than one map set on a card by renaming the existing set on the card and then adding the next. Please Go here to continue that discussion..

Sorry for throwing the cat between the pigeons but until Taxi drivers commit to using Junctions and Lanes as intended, there is no need for these "Superior Driving Aids" in poor old RSA.

Such a pity you've limited your view to a wide screen only because for your needs stated the 60CSx would be the way to go - period (OK - also an eTrex HCx). These are true GPSr while the units you speak of above are Street Nav units - of which there are only two that are rugged enough and waterproof for your needs and these would be the nuvi 500 and the Motorbike-friendly Zumo.

The topic seemed to drift from a "What GPSr to buy?" into one about "Combo-Mapsets especially in Nuvi's" so I've created a separate topic for the latter over here.
